The first song Jay ever wrote is now ten years old. It may as well be forty years, or fifty, or maybe
even older. That's the beauty of his music - it's the sound of the old and the new, the purity and
simplicity of steel on wood. It's the sound of rivers and mountains; dirt and stone; love and loss.

Folk, blues, R&B, rock & roll, bluegrass, and maybe even a little gospel are all represented in
Jay's songs. But just as the people and places he sings of are mysterious and real, the songs are
mysterious and real as well - and maybe even indefinable. Jay grew up in Indiana. He first picked
up the guitar in 1992 and since then it has taken him to small coffeehouses and campsites,
barrooms and showrooms, dirty basements and the Appalachian Mountains. Now that guitar has
led him to Nashville and onto Los Angeles.

Since that first song was written ten years ago, Jay has been a lot of places and
seen a lot of folks - and the stories of what he has seen make up his songbook.
