Russell & Chuck

About Chuck...

“I like to play the Blues… it’s just as simple as that!  It’s good music,
it’s music from the soul, and it’s music from the heart. I’ve been
playing for over 30 years. I consider myself more of an “entertainer”
than anything else. I started on drums then guitar then harmonica
then bass and, most recently, on ukulele. Yeah, I play blues on the
ukulele too. Not many folks I’ve ever heard of have tried that! I just
like to play on anything that will make music.

I’ve been singing all my life and I’ve written many songs of all types. I
love country music, jazz, classic rock, R&B and Motown. Zydeco is cool
too. Anything with a Cajun/Nawlins’ style feels especially good to me,
since my folks and heritage is from Lou-z-ana.

I tend to gravitate to acoustic blues in its simplest, rawest form,
favoring the “less is more” approach. My special joy is to connect with
my audience, talking, joking and sharing stories about the music.

I’ve worked with such local blues greats as Doug MacLeod, Juke Logan
and Bernie Pearl.

I also like to share as much as I can. I work with local schools to
provide musical programs during which I get an opportunity to share
the blues with young children and let them hear it up close and
personal.

I mostly play solo and with my regular partner, Texas native, Russell
Somers. I’ve also been a regular part of several groups, Backburner
Blues, Johnny Legrand & A Few Good Friends, The Backyard Blues
Band, The Second String Band and many others who’s names I can’t
remember.  I play guitar and bass with the worship team at my church.
I’m also a volunteer with The American Cancer Society and perform at
many of their summertime Relay for Life events.

I’m available for engagements, both public and private, and can be
reached by phone or thru my website. Ya’ll give me a call!

About Russell...

Singer, Songwriter, Guitar Player
In my on-going efforts to be a working musician (as opposed to a
practicing one?), I hand out cards, make phone calls, cruise the open
mics, publish a webpage, and send emails to folks who by intent or
misfortune ended up on the mailing list.

Sometimes you just have to call it what it is. It could be  "Public
Service Announcements", or "News You Need To Know", or the "Arts
Calendar for the SouthBay", but we all know it's really just Shameless
Self-Promotion.

But in our defense, Chuck and I would much rather be playing music
than actually working, and to get to do that we have to harass family,
friends, and complete strangers so that maybe they will come down and
listen to us for a while. Otherwise we'll just end up playing in the
garage, and the neighbors will complain, and the police will come, and a
fight will breakout, and we'll end up in the Blind Kiwi Hopper
Correctional Institute for Blues Musicians where every letter back
home starts with "Well, I woke up this morning........." . And Mary and
Annie will only get to see us on visiting days when they contribute to
global warming by driving over in the big gas guzzling van.

So please........come on down and hear us next chance you get. Think of
it as giving back to the community by keeping peace in the
neighborhood and saving the environment. Or just do it for Mary and
Annie........they really would miss us.

I think I'll call Al Gore and get him on the mailing list. And when I
meet him, we can talk about that internet thing that makes this
Shameless Self-Promotion webpage possible.

Help keep the blues green!
